Lord Mayor’s Visit

We were delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor, Cllr Chris O’Leary, and the Lady Mayoress to St. Luke’s School recently. They were both treated to a rendition of the school anthem, ‘The Spirit of St. Luke’s’, sung by the pupils.

The Lord Mayor spoke to the pupils about the importance of caring for each other. He also spoke about the upcoming 1916 Centenary Programme and looking at how different life was in 1916. Pupils were encouraged to ask grandparents about their lives when they were young and compare this with life today.

Food Dudes

We are currently taking part in the Food Dudes Programme. This programme  gives pupils the opportunity to taste a variety of fruit and vegetables. Food Dudes is a programme developed by the University of Wales, Bangor, to encourage children to eat more fruit and vegetables both in school and at home. It is based on positive role models (the Food Dudes characters), repeated tasting and rewards.

Pupils in Junior Infants – 2nd Class are taking part in the complete programme while senior pupils take part in a ‘reminder’ programme.

London Chamber Brass Quintet

All pupils were recently treated to an interactive performance by the London Chamber Brass Quintet. We heard a selection of musical pieces and learned about the various brass instruments. Some pupils got a very close-up view of the instruments and Alison even got to conduct the quintet! A huge thank you to the Parents’ Association for their funding of this event.
